Farmers have recently experienced an increasing number of weather extremes, which - alongside the increasingly acute shortage of labour - is pushing them to buy ever larger and heavier machines.
However, more powerful machines have a higher operating weight, which is why it is very important to choose the right walking gear and operate it correctly.
The following aspects are the most important:
-Tyres of the right size and construction (twin tyres if necessary).
-Tractor properly weighted (weighting of front and rear axles for the specific work and operating conditions).
-Tyre pressure control.
But why is tyre pressure control important for road and field conditions?
Because on the road, setting the right pressure (higher 1.6-1.8 bar) reduces tyre rolling resistance, resulting in lower fuel consumption (-5%), less tyre wear (-20%) and increased vehicle stability.
In arable farming, however, it is important to adjust the pressure (reduced from 0.6 to 1.0 bar) to maximise the tractor's engine power and operating weight in relation to the engine power adapted to the work, while minimising wheel slip.
Prevention is always more cost-effective than repairing the damage caused.
